Meet the Doctors
SCOTTS VALLEY PHYSICIANS WORKING TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE
Dr.
John Catlin originates from
New England, having attended Trinity College for his undergraduate work
and New York Medical College before entering the US Navy for his
internship
and four years as a Navel Flight Surgeon followed by his family
practice
residency in Santa Cruz. He co-founded the Scotts Valley Medical Clinic
with two other physicians in 1969 and he is the only doctor currently
practicing
of the three. He is board certified by the American Board of Family
Practice. He holds a commercial pilot’s license and he has been a
senior
FAA examiner for 30 years. Dr. Catlin actively pursues private flying,
golf and music. He plays the piano, hammered dulcimer and string bass.
He is married and with his wife Coty, has six daughters and four
grandchildren.
Dr. Dawn Motyka joined Scotts
Valley Medical Clinic in 1991 after working as the medical
director of a rural community clinic in Hollister, CA. She received her
medical training at University of California, Davis School of Medicine
and
did her entire Family Practice residency at San Bernardino County
Medical
Center. Dr. Motyka is a graduate of the UCLA Medical Acupuncture
Program
and maintains a part-time acupuncture practice. She also hosts Health
Matters, a weekly radio call-in program heard locally on KUSP 88.9
FM which airs Saturdays at 9 a.m. Listen live on the web at
KUSP.org every Saturday at 9 a.m.(Pacific time). She served 7
years on the Board of Directors
of Dominican Hospital, is past treasurer of the Santa Cruz County
Medical Society and is past chair of Physicians Services, Inc. She is
board certified by the American Board of Family Practice and earned a
fellowship from the American Academy of Family Practice, Dr. Motyka
speaks French and Spanish well and is learning Indonesian. She has
traveled extensively to many exotic places and continues to do so. She
is interested in photography, gardening, mountain biking and
skiing. She is married to Charles Manske, a video artist and
software engineer.
Dr. Michael Coulson received
his MD from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1995. He hold a
degree
in physiology from UCDavis and worked for three years as a Peace Corps
volunteer in Honduras. He speaks fluent spanish, having completed his
residency in Family Practice at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas. He
is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice and is a
member
of the American Academy of Family Practice. Prior to coming to Scotts
Valley, Dr. Coulson was associate medical director of the Clinica De
Salud
in Soledad. He and his wife
Sean, an acupuncturist, have one son.
Dr. Karen Lynch fell in love
with Santa Cruz while completing her undergraduate degree in Medieval
History. She returned here after 10 years in private family practice at
the Woodland
Clinic near Sacramento CA. Dr. Lynch attended UC Davis School of
Medicine
and had completed 2 years of an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency
before
changing direction to primary care medicine. She completed her Family
Medicine
Residency at UC Riverside Medical Center. She is board certified by the
American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American
Academy
of Family Practice. She is trained in homeopathy and integrates
it's use in her medical practice. She lives in her
Soquel home with Studmuffin, her Bichon Frise and Nutmeg, a Maine Coon
Cat. In her spare time, she continues her studies in homeopathy, works
in her garden, knits and
works her way through a reading list that spans the range from
histories
to mysteries.
